Five hours on the Chobe River in a private boat – no shared vessel, no other guests, just your group, your guide, and one of the most wildlife-rich river corridors in Africa. The 5-hour private cruise includes lunch served on board, giving you an uninterrupted morning or afternoon on the water without needing to return to shore for a meal. This is the most immersive single-activity Chobe river experience available – ideal for groups, photography enthusiasts, families, and anyone who wants the full Chobe river story told in one extended session.
The joined afternoon cruise ($30/person) puts you on a shared boat with other guests. Excellent value and the wildlife experience is the same. But the private boat gives you things the joined cruise cannot: Full control of the boat’s movements: Your guide directs the captain entirely based on your group’s interests – if you want to spend 45 minutes watching a pod of hippos, you stay. Photography positioning: Your guide can position the boat specifically for the best light, best angle, and minimum background obstruction. Pace and timing: The 5-hour format means you’re on the water from mid-morning through the peak afternoon wildlife window and into the golden hour. Lunch on board: No return to shore, no interruption. Lunch is served on the boat while you’re still on the water.

Five hours covers significantly more of the Chobe River than a standard 3-hour cruise. The full length of the Kasane riverfront section (approximately 18km) is accessible, giving your guide the ability to:
• Cover the upper elephant concentration area when herds move to drink
• Work the sandbanks methodically for crocodile and bird behaviour
• Position at known hippo pods and wait for full surfacing activity
• Follow specific animal groups – a herd of elephants swimming midstream
• Reach the quieter western stretches where large buffalo herds gather
Photography: 5 hours on a private boat with full positioning control is the optimal format for Chobe river photography.
8 people maximum per boat. This keeps the boat spacious, ensures unobstructed views for all guests. For groups larger than 8, we can arrange two boats.
Yes – purchase drinks in Kasane before departure and bring them on board in a cooler bag. Soft drinks, juice, and water are provided.
The on-board lunch is a generous cold spread – sandwiches and wraps, salads, cold meats and cheese, fresh fruit, and dessert items. Hot food is not practical on a river cruise boat.
Yes – book the Chobe Full Day Trip for the game drive component and upgrade the river cruise section to a private boat. Contact us to discuss a custom package.
