Most Kasane-based visitors see Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwe side – the classic, well-photographed viewpoints that appear in every travel magazine. The Zambia side is different. The Zambian perspective puts you on the eastern bank of the falls, with a completely different angle on the main cataract, access to the spray-drenched Knife Edge Bridge above the Eastern Cataract, and – in high water season – the most dramatic, full-body soaking that any natural wonder on earth can deliver. Combined with a visit to Livingstone town, this is a full, richly textured day from Kasane that adds a genuinely different dimension to the Victoria Falls experience.
The Zimbabwe side gives you the full frontal view of the main curtain across the full width. The Zambia side gives you the Knife Edge Bridge directly above the Eastern Cataract gorge, access to Livingstone Island and Devil’s Pool (seasonal), and slightly less crowded conditions. Key Zambian viewpoints: Knife Edge Bridge – a suspension footbridge directly over the Eastern Cataract gorge; at high water, a complete white-out experience. Eastern Cataract – the full force of the eastern section. Main Falls View – angled perspective from the Zambian bank. Livingstone Island – seasonal (December–March and June–September) – Devil’s Pool on the very lip of the falls.

Zambia Visa: Most nationalities require a Zambia visa. KAZA Univisa ($50) covers both Zambia and Zimbabwe – ideal if visiting both sides of the falls. Available on arrival at Kazungula Bridge. Zambia single-entry ($50) covers Zambia only.
KAZA Univisa recommendation: If you plan to visit both Victoria Falls Zimbabwe and Livingstone Zambia, the $50 KAZA Univisa is significantly better value than separate visas.
Botswana re-entry: If your Botswana permit is single-entry, crossing into Zambia uses it up. Most tourist permits to Botswana are multiple-entry – check your stamp before booking.
Feb–May (High water): Full flood, extreme spray, Knife Edge is a white-out – most dramatic experience. Jun–Aug (Falling): Very strong flow, heavy spray, excellent balance of volume and visibility. Sep–Oct (Low-medium): Best photography, Livingstone Island open, clear views. Nov–Jan (Rising): Building flow, Livingstone Island open early season.
Lunch is at own expense. Recommended options: The Waterfront – upscale, riverside Zambezi views ($25–40/person). Olga’s Italian Corner – long-running favourite, great pasta ($15–25/person). Cafe Zambezi – good coffee and sandwiches ($10–18/person). Golden Leaf – Indian/local, vegetarian-friendly ($10–15/person). Your driver can take you to any of these.
Yes – if you have a day to spare and haven’t seen it, the Zambia side offers a completely different perspective on the falls and a more authentic experience in Livingstone town. The Knife Edge Bridge at high water is one of the most physically extraordinary experiences available at any natural wonder in the world.
Devil’s Pool – the natural swimming pool on the lip of Victoria Falls on Livingstone Island – is a seasonal activity available September–December and June–July. It must be booked in advance and is an additional cost. Advise us when booking if you want to include it.
The drive from Kasane to Livingstone is approximately 110km. The Kazungula Bridge border crossing adds 30–60 minutes. Total travel time is approximately 2–2.5 hours each way, including the border.
This is an unguided tour – you visit the Victoria Falls Zambia side independently. The falls path is well-signed and easy to navigate. If you want a licensed guide, advise us at booking and we will arrange a local Livingstone guide to meet you at the entrance gate for an additional cost.
