What changes after the day-trippers leave: The Chobe National Park gate closes to day visitors at sunset. Once the last day-trip vehicles file out, the park reverts to its natural rhythm. The roads are empty. The noise stops. Animals that had been keeping a wary distance relax and move more freely. Camp is surrounded by the bush – not a fence, not a lodge wall, just canvas and the sounds of Africa. Elephants sometimes walk through camp in the night. Hyenas investigate the campfire embers. Your campsite is located inside Chobe National Park – not at a lodge, not in a fenced compound, but in the actual bush, within the park boundaries. The site is exclusive: booked only for your group. Camp setup includes: • Dome tents – comfortable, weatherproof, with good ground insulation • Sleeping bags and sleeping mats (provided) • Camp chairs and a central fire area • Portable camp table for meals • Basic bush toilet and washing facilities • Lanterns for evening light What ‘exclusive bush campsite’ means: You are genuinely in the bush. Animals can and do pass through camp. Your guide will brief you on safety protocols on arrival.
Your guide will conduct a full safety briefing on arrival at the campsite. Key points: • Do not walk outside the camp perimeter alone at night – your guide escorts you to the toilet area • Do not leave food outside tents – baboons, hyenas, and occasionally elephant investigate food smells • Listen to your guide at all times – if an animal enters camp, remain calm and follow instructions • A fire is maintained throughout the night – animals generally avoid the fire circle Staying overnight in Chobe is safe when you follow the briefing. Our guides have conducted hundreds of bush camping nights without incident.
A night in Chobe means two game drives – a late afternoon drive and a full dawn drive – plus a sunset river cruise. The dawn drive is the single most productive wildlife window: • Lions are still active from night hunting and often visible on or near the road at first light • Leopards are returning from nocturnal activity • Elephants have been active through the night • Hyenas are still visible at dawn, often near fresh kills • Birds produce an extraordinary cacophony and diversity of species at dawn No day-trip vehicle will be in the park at 06:00. You have Chobe entirely to yourself.
Yes – with proper protocols followed. Your guide conducts a safety briefing on arrival. A fire is maintained through the night, your guide sleeps in camp, and the toilet area is escorted. Animals do pass through or near camp – this is part of the authentic experience – but safety protocols are well-established and effective.
Lion are widely distributed throughout Chobe and their roaring carries for kilometres through still night air. Many overnight camp guests hear lions during the night. We cannot guarantee it, but the probability is high, particularly June–October.
Yes – minimum age is 5 years. Children who are old enough to follow the safety briefing and stay calm in the presence of wildlife are perfectly suited to this experience. It is one of the most formative experiences possible for children.
